About Mattituck

Mattituck

The first Hamlet stretching from Bay to Sound side, Mattituck, is home to Love Lane, a Normal-Rockwell-style quaint shopping street dotted with gift shops, places to eat, and a great market; also to the North Fork Community Theater. Mattituck is proof that the North Fork is no longer seasonal, but attracts visitors and residents year-round! Private enclaves such as Salt Lake Village and Camp Mineola Road provide home owners with some of the sandiest Peconic Bay beaches, while the Sound Side is dotted with homes on top of a high bluff with wide views overlooking the Long Island Sound towards Connecticut - with private Sound beach access by means of wooden staircases and terraces. Mattituck Inlet - provides its waterfront residents with private docks with fit for some of the deepest water accommodating even deep keeled sailboats. The "Old Mill Inn" is a quaint old mill straddling Mattituck inlet, with a famous bar and a not-to-be-missed restaurant. Next door Captain Bob organizes chartered fishing tours.

Sound side, Mattituck is well known for its beach front community called Captain Kidd's Estates, referring to the mythical buried Pirates' treasure - a few blocks of homes close to the Sound, sharing beach access.

Don't forget to visit the Mattituck Laurel Historical Society to get a feel for this quaint hamlet's farming importance. And make sure to visit Mattituck Cinemas on a quiet evening to see one of Hollywood's latest movies - maybe it was actually shot on the North Fork!
